Since the days of Galileo Galilei, mankind has never ceased in their passion and curiosity with what lies beyond earth's stratosphere. Countless of space expeditions that have given us brief yet profound glimpses taught us to realize that we are merely a miniscule component of a much superior and wondrous entity that challenges our imagination.
Space exploration has long been a dream of many young children but for composer Ng Chor Guan, it wasn't only a childhood aspiration. It was a desire to express his interpretation of space, even though life gave him an alternate trajectory from becoming an astronaut. Music became his channel and his passion fueled his dreams of bringing space closer to audiences.
Together with 5 gifted musicians and 3 talented video artists as his 'space crew', Chor Guan takes you on a journey beyond the unknown, unraveling the mystery of Phantom Power, the unexplained force of energy that defies scientific theory within the realms of outer space.
Experience Space Age: Phantom Power through 8 freshly composed musical movements guaranteed to lift you off as you are enthralled by stunning multimedia visual displays in a space venture that is truly out of this world.
Named after its Russian inventor, Professor Léon Theremin, the theremin is an early electronic musical instrument controlled without contact from the player. It senses the positions of the player's hands using two metal antennas, which control oscillators for frequency in one hand and amplitude (volume) in the other. The electric signals from the theremin are then amplified and sent to a loudspeaker. Often associated with an eerie sound, theremins have been used in movie soundtracks for movies such as Spellbound and The Day The Earth Stood Still. Today, theremins are used in art music, especially avant-garde and 21st century new music such as rock.
Along with the theremin, our space crew will showcase music featuring the piano, violin, French horn and flute to bring you 8 freshly composed musical movements that will each tell a poignant story of space exploration and more importantly, harness the phenomenal attributes of Phantom Power in space flight.
